Doyle Mitchell

Doyle Mitchell Age 76 of St. Louis. Beloved husband of Irene and father, grandfather. Doyle Mitchell was born to the union of Herman and Geneva Mitchell on April 10, 1936 in Morrilton, Arkansas. He was the second oldest of five children. He was proceeded in death by his twin brother: Royal Mitchell, mother: Geneva J. Pledger, and father: Herman Mitchell. Doyle and his father, Herman Mitchell, moved to St. Louis in 1945. He grew up in the St. Louis Public school system where he later graduated from Sumner High School in 1956. Doyle attended Washington University and studied Commercial Art. He obeyed the gospel of Jesus Christ at the age of 14 at the Frances and Evans Church of Christ in 1950. Brother Mitchell had been walking with Christ for 62 years and was faithfully committed to the cause of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. He worked diligently as a number one salesman at Palmer’s Clothing and Furniture Company for 49 years. He dedicated his life to church leadership, committed discipleship, and the careful teaching of the word of God. He was a leader of the Lord’s Church at the St. Louis Metropolitan Church of Christ. Doyle was a charter member of that church for almost ten years until he was called home to be with the Lord. On January 21, 1962 Doyle Mitchell was united in holy matrimony with his soul mate the former Irene Wright of Benton, Mississippi. They had six children: Kimberly Micelle Stokes (Anthony), Doyle Andre’ Mitchell (Ilisa), Christopher Herman Mitchell, Heather Nicole Brown (Harvey), Jonathan Scott Mitchell (Calencia), and Paul Joseph Mitchell (Jodi). He had eight grandchildren: Anthony Wayne Stokes II, India Irie Mitchell, Aaron Stokes, David Mitchell, Madeline Elaine Mitchell, Cooper Joseph Mitchell, (Josiah Nathaniel Mitchell), and Jabari Jones. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Irene, his surviving mother Phedora Mitchell, children, grandchildren, brothers: Garrett Pledger and Foster Williams, sisters: Georgia and Bobbie Pledger, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, church family members, and friends. Doyle Mitchell was an ordinary man with extraordinary abilities. He was a man of great strength, character, influence, and abundant wisdom. Doyle was a great song leader and had a beautiful first tenor voice. He sang with the Gospel Chorus, The Page Blvd. Church of Christ Acappella Singers, and the Ambassadors For Christ. He displayed his creative genius through photography as he chronicled the lives of his family and others. We loved him so, but God loved him best.
