Nancy Katharine Wedig

Nancy Katharine Wedig, a retired Director of Admissions and Public Relations, died on December 26, 2025, at SSM DePaul Hospital in Bridgeton, Missouri. She was 85. Nancy was born on April 12, 1940, in Joplin, Missouri, the daughter of Ivan and Alice Welch. She graduated from Joplin High School in June of 1958 and attended Joplin Junior College from 1958 – 1960. After leaving Junior College with an Associate In Arts degree, she attended University of Missouri-Columbia on a Curators’ Scholarship, receiving her Bachelor of Journalism degree in 1962. While at Mizzou, she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She met Ed Wedig at Homecoming at the University of Missouri-Columbia in October of 1961, and they were married on September 30, 1962, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lebanon, Missouri. The couple moved to Gary, Indiana, where Nancy began her journalism career at Herald Newspaper, Inc. in Hammond, IN and as a Feature Writer at the Gary Post Tribune. Later, she worked for Fairchild Publication (Women’s Wear Daily magazine) in St. Louis. She put her career on hold to raise her two sons until 1979 when she joined St. Luke’s Hospital for 9 years finishing as Director of Public Relations and the Good Samaritan Home as Director of Admissions and Public Relations. Nancy and her husband lived in Florissant, Missouri for 30 years. In 1984, they purchased a home on the Niangua arm of the Lake of the Ozarks and moved to Camdenton permanently in 1994, upon Ed’s retirement. She was a long-time member of both Risen Christ Lutheran Church in Florissant and Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Camdenton before she found her final church home, Christ the King Lutheran Church at Lake Ozark, Missouri. She was a loving, caring woman who enjoyed playing cards, tennis, fishing, and boating, with her husband, sons, and grandchildren. Nancy enjoyed vacationing together with her family and shared an extreme passion for nature with her husband, especially visiting national parks. She was an enthusiastic volunteer at Camdenton Elementary School for ten years, assisting students with their reading skills and earning volunteer of the year in 2015. Nancy and her husband of 58 years also enjoyed following their favorite sports teams. She is survived by a brother, Terry Welch (Carol), son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Michelle Wedig, of Bridgeton, Missouri; another son, Steve Wedig (Gracia Turner), of Bourbonnais, Illinois; and five grandchildren, Bailey Wedig, Drew Wedig, Carter Wedig (Emma Werner), Olivia Wedig, and Grant Wedig. Nancy is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ed Wedig; her parents, Ivan and Alice Welch; and a sister, Christie Welch. Cremation rites were accorded.
