> Troy Odell Mathis, aka Dee, Pop, Dad, Sannee, Granddaddy, GPa, Great G, was born on February 17, 1929 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He passed away after a sudden health decline on May 13, 2024 at the age of 95. > > Troy is survived by his three children, William (Stephanie Dorris), Michael (Kathy Gerlach), and Melanie (Michael) Coyne, his grandchildren Tori (Dan) Sacco, Meredith (Liam) LaRue, Maureen (Ryan) Stewart, Sean (Ivor Davies) Mathis, and Megan (Trey Swick) Coyne, his great grandchildren Josephine and Gwendolyn Sacco, Everett and Maren LaRue, Griffin and Ethan Stewart, and Cameron and Blane Swick and loyal friends and extended family members. Troy was predeceased by his wife of 69 years, Doris Huddleston. May they reconnect in Heaven. > > Troy served the military, his churches (St. James Methodist, Charlotte, NC, St. Marks Methodist, Florissant, MO and First Christian Church, Florissant, MO), his family, and Hazelwood School District with devotion and integrity. He had a passion for singing and performed with the University Choir and St. James Male Chorus. Early in his career, he and Doris moved their budding family to Florissant, Missouri from Charlotte, North Carolina, where they’d spend the remainder of their lives together. They raised three successful children, helped to raise their grandchildren and lucky for their great grandchildren Doris and Troy stuck around long enough to “visit” with them, leaving them all with fond lasting memories. > > Most recently, after the passing of Doris, Troy joined the Delmar Gardens of O’Fallon community where he made many friends of residents and staff alike. He took pride in his job to announce “Last Call Y’all” to all the residents and visitors of Delmar Gardens’ daily happy hour. Family gatherings were kept upbeat, as he was able to host at the Delmar Gardens bowling alley. His family is thankful to have all the positive memories of his 95th birthday and Easter. > > Troy will be remembered for his sweet tooth and late-night trips for ice cream with the grandkids, his love of the St. Louis Cardinals and North Carolina Tarheel Basketball, his creative talent for rehabbing antique furniture, his unwavering refusal to get hearing aids, but most of all his hugs, love, and support to his family. > > A family visitation will be held at Archway Memorial Chapel, Hazelwood, MO, on Thursday, May 23 from 10-11am. following by a short service, prayer, and scripture. Directly following, The Military Honor Guard will provide honors before his interment at Our Lady Cemetery, Lake St. Louis. > > A Celebration of Life will be held in early summer at First Christian Church in Florissant where friends and family can share stories about both Doris and Troy.
